Not familiar with the UBank product. With my son's ING Orange Everyday card the paperwork that came with it (in 2018) says for international ATM withdrawals "select credit", but maybe this has changed. Citibank has always advised to select credit when withdrawing from ATMs overseas using the...
Not quite. Banks don't use the credit card rate with each other, theirs is the mid-market or interbank rate. It IS very transparent, some converters like Oanda even show it in their menu. Its the interbank rate that cards like Citibank Plus, ING Orange Everyday and 28 Degrees Mastercard match.
It would be in the info that came with your card, but this is stated on the below website for the HSBC EVERYDAY Global Account :
"While the “savings” option may work with some EFTPOS machines overseas, it is important to always select “credit” when paying with your HSBC debit card overseas."...
Sorry, poorly worded. Yes the Mastercard/Visa conversion is 1% and banks typically add 2%, as per this article. Citibank Plus, as advertised, is always at the interbank (mid-market) rate (as is the 28 Degrees Mastercard).
Excerpt: "These fees are usually disclosed by the issuing bank in the...
I've had my Citibank Plus debit card for 15 years and always check the conversion rate on overseas ATM withdrawals. Its always with 0.1-0.2% of the interbank rate on Oanda (in line with the linked article).

Most cards with "zero international transaction fees" still convert at the Mastercard or Visa rate (whichever the card is branded), which add 2-3% to the interbank rate. Citibank Plus charges the interbank rate as explained here:

All debit cards require you to select Credit when withdrawing cash overseas, as they use the Mastercard and Visa networks for overseas access. Its always up front in the card T&Cs.

Cards that preload always charge a higher forex conversion rate.
I've done it to Noumea on a status run. Qantas seemed to know the routine and had someone meet me and another traveler, escort us out through immigration and back through check in and immigration again, and usher us to the lounge with time for 2 glasses of bubbles before boarding the same plane...
I use Skyscanner, but then you have to look at the sites it finds the cheap fares on and decide how shonky they are. Where possible I'll find the itinerary on Skyscanner then try to book it direct with the airline. Momondo and Ebookers are not bad.

There are plenty of award flights available and for the normal number of points. If fares are insane, it might make sense to purchase some points/miles. The other advantage of award flights is that you can easily cancel.
Not all ATMs will access Citi savings accounts, but any Visa branded ATM will access the Visa Debit by way of the Visa network. Hence its basically infallible in a Visa ATM.
