I don’t mind if they change the darkness to “suggest” where they should be but the locking more often than not is frustrating. Especially that the windows have a “dim” feature maybe I want it a shade brighter so I can see out but minimise disturbance.

Had exactly this happen to me on QF2. Went from bulkhead window seat in Y to middle seat middle row of PE and was considering trying to be downgraded back. They had actually filled Y too by then so there was no where to go. Despite that I actually had a somewhat comfortable flight.
