Qatar Airways status match to Virgin Australia

Soft landing to Gold from status match. I only earned some Avios from a BA flight

    Japan Tourism for independent travellers

Wow, just came across this. Was in Japan Jan/Feb and yes had some issues with Google Maps. Explains a bit, really would have loved to use the Japan Transit Planner app. On another note I've heard they are no longer updating www.hyperdia.com - that was my go-to for so many years.

HSBC Star Alliance credit card in Australia

I was actually expecting the VA lounge to change my FF to Aeroplan if I was intending to use that to get into the lounge, but they did not. So to me this seems a benefit: fly VA collect SCs & points but get lounge access via Aero 50K. Particularly useful when you lose status. I'm in two minds...

HSBC Star Alliance credit card in Australia

I qualified mid-Jan and nothing for me yet. They quote 6 to 8 weeks and we are pretty much on that now. I'll chase them up in another two weeks I think. Also if you are at ICN and not flying Star Alliance, I can't see how Gold SA is going to get you into a lounge there.

HSBC Star Alliance credit card in Australia

Weekend just gone I was SYD-MEL-SYD after dropping back to (gasp!) PS with VA. I left my VA number attached to the booking. At the lounge I simply flashed my phone with the Aeroplan 50K qc code (which they did not scan) and advised I'm entering as an AC 50K-er. No drama at all. I just checked my...

Ten hours at Heathrow between Flights

Absolutely. And in fact the Magna Carta memorial not far from there either. England huh? History everywhere

Ten hours at Heathrow between Flights

I'd be getting out for the day if you can. Richmond-on-Thames is lovely and Kew Gardens isn't that far away.

HSBC Star Alliance credit card in Australia

Yep should have clarified that - SA Gold all the way through to Dec 2025 - well provided I stump up the annual fee next year I guess. I’ll be doing my best to make it work for me!

HSBC Star Alliance credit card in Australia

Applied & approved Dec; $4K spend by early Jan; opened SA & Aeroplan accounts last Monday and confirmation of SA Gold status and Aeroplan 50K status today. No actual 50K points arrived yet though. Very good timing for me as my VA SG drops to PS (gasp!) end of this month.

    ANA partnership with Virgin Australia

Just back from HND for a ski trip and I must say, quite impressed with Y on the 787. Maybe my expectations were low, but I found it pretty comfortable even with a full flight. Opted for daytime flights. My SA Gold via HSBC hasn't updated yet so no lounge, but I have a month left of VA SG so the...

HSBC Star Alliance credit card in Australia

I haven’t opened an Aeroplan account yet. For those that have and also have Middle names - can you please let me know: SA only use First Name field and Last Name. Aeroplan have separate fields for First Name, Middle Name (optional), and Last Name. SA specifically told me names have to match on...

HSBC Star Alliance credit card in Australia

Oooft I'm having some fun with SA and HSBC. I can see an SA ID on my HSBC statement. I don't recall enrolling directly. I tried to reset my password and failed, so got in touch with SA. I must say they have been quite helpful and quick to respond to multiple emails. Anyway, they told me this...

Article: Should Airlines Rebook Sick Passengers for Free?

I'm feeling better right now. Just a head cold, cleared up with Codrol but the doc gave me a course of antibiotics anyway. In a way it's good to get this in the week prior to a trip perhaps. I'll stick with a KN95 mask for the flight. SYD-HND in Y on ANA, it's been a while since I did a long Y...

How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Article: Should Airlines Rebook Sick Passengers for Free?

I'm feeling nervous right now as I'm SYD-HND on Friday and have had a cough last two days. Negative on COVID tests, will see doctor shortly for antibiotics, but seated middle in Y on ANA and yeah, apologies to the pax next to me. Obviously I will be masked, hopefully I don't have to resort to...
