What's the most obscure airport you've visited?

Many years ago I flew in and out of Girua Airport (PNP) which services Popondetta in Papua New Guinea. It was so long ago the flight was on a Talco DC3!

    Hotel in Vienna

Stayed at the Hilton Vienna Park a few years ago. Would happily stay there, rooms large and modern. Vienna is a great walking city (parks and relatively flat) and the hotel is well situated. If you do nothing else, have a genuine schnitzel in the hotel restaurant- best I’ve ever had!

Qantas to fly Melbourne to Burnie

Lived in Devonport in the early eighties and the airlines often flew DPO - WYN - MEL. It was only about a 15 min flight but the scenery at low level was awesome. The Burnie people will hate me but Wynyard airport is about as close to Burnie as you need to go.

What was your best or worst birthday while travelling?

I lost a birthday flying home from the US - departed on the 5th and landed on the 7th. I guess that allows me to deduct a year from my age.

When international starts again will you stay with your usual provider ?

It’s hard to remain optimistic when your travel has been restricted to a 5 km radius from home for the last few months! I don’t have any SQ status but I have a bunch of SQ points that I’m keeping a watchful eye on as I don’t want to loose them when / if we get to travel again. I’ve also got...

Best Airbus A380 memories (so far)

My wife and I had our first A380 flight not long after Qantas started flying them from MEL to LAX. They were definitely a novelty and even the captain seemed a little in awe of the aircraft. Once we had fully boarded, he announced that he would shortly be starting the engines and that we would...

What's the best travel upgrade you've received?

I’ve been lucky enough to be given quite a few op upgrades on Qantas but just once on Cathay. As a QF Platinum, Cathay recognizes your status and the attendants will sneak you a nice drink but they almost never give away upgrades to alliance partner FFs. I don’t know why I scored this one but...

Where would you be now ... ?

I think it’s the weather App that’s causing me grief at the moment. 27C in Paris, 28C in Lyon, not a drop of rain and it’s wet and freezing cold in Melbourne. Today we would have arrived at Konstanz to commence our 6 day cycle around the lake with stops in Germany, Switzerland and Austria...

    Why is QF10 PER-MEL showing as an A330 on 28 April 2020?

I guess this all makes sense operationally to Qantas but unless you’re a PE passenger with the business upgrade, it’s just another downgrade to Mel services. Not a fan of going via Perth in the first place and I won’t be surprised to find a 737 waiting for me on my next flight.

    LTP - the $1,500,000 reality

As a retired self funded traveller, I’m struggling with the strategy associated with these changes. I have LTG and have been platinum for the last 10 years. I generally fly Qantas to help maintain platinum which in turn helps me more easily burn some of my accumulated QFF points. With the...

Qantas orders six more 787s, plans to retire all 747s by 2020

Such a shame to see the end of the 747 in Qantas livery. My best experience was a flight from London to Hong Kong where I had booked a premium economy seat and used points to be upgraded to business. When I checked in I found I had been allocated seat 1A in first! It seems a Cathay flight had...

Hilton Honors Macquarie Platinum Card Discontinued

Very sad to see this card's benefits go - it was a simple and easy way to get to diamond status plus recieve a complimentary award night. I have scoredsuite upgrades on regular occasions and the complimentary breakfast / executive lounge access is a real bonus. I would commend the Parmelia...

The definitive thread on Qantas IT gripes.

I have the pleasure of receiving a Qantas text with an account access verification code every 12 hours, every day. This has been happening since Qantas introduced the verification texts. I’ve made a number of calls to the FF help desk and they have confirmed there has not been any unauthorized...

    Status run: Bangladesh

Thank you for the report. So I interesting and it also brought back heaps of memories. I’ve made many trips to Bangladesh and Chittagong while working for a major Australian retailer. I have never experienced anything more chaotic than the drive from the airport to the Dhaka hotel. Horns...

MEL Dom. lounges refurb Completed October 2018

I've been through the new Melbourne business lounge a number of times now. The space is certainly an upgrade on the old lounge with plenty of seating and dining areas, even on busy mornings. Its nice to have the views across the airfield but I guess the regular Qantas lounge won't be as nice...
