Melbourne to Perth in Business Class

Hi All

I'm thinking of flying Melbourne to Perth using points in business class in late August or early September this year.

My question is, to get the best business class experience am I best off choosing to fly via Sydney? If so which type of plane? Any other information gratefully received.

The 747-300s will still be operating some MEL-PER-MEL flights in September. Book one of those for the best business class experience to PER.

Don't route via SYD since QF charge the fuel fines per sector and adding an extra two sectors will cost you in cash.

Still operating ? Why, whats the planned change ?

I am on QF485 on Sunday on a 743.
Still seeing J9 D4 atm MEL-PER
by QF 71 PER-SIN is showing J0/C0/D0 actually its also showing Y2 so a full full flight it looks. (BA16,QF5,QF9 etc are allow showing 0 inventory in just about all classes, busy school holiday week)

No changed implied. But they won't stay forever once some more capacity arrives for QF. EBU and EBT are now history, and its only a matter of time running out for the rest of the 743 fleet as they come due for major maintenance.

Yes, too true. Maybe those new A332's QF are getting ?
Otherwise they have no other new aircraft besides A380 for some years, the 787 will first go to Jetstar then QF they say.

I think the A332's will free up some more 767's to operate domestically

The first 3 A380s are expected before the end of 2008, starting with teh first delivered in August 2008. So not too far away now.

Thanks NM, been meaning to ask for a while now (and bump this to an A380 thread if you think) whether I am stupid routing a DONE4 on LHR-SIN-SYD instead of LHR-HKG-BNE to try an pick up an A380 in May 2009. I know nothing is ever guaranteed but some thoughts would be nice.

AFAIK, 'Tis impossible to book an xONEx with any flight segments departing more than one year in advance & the last segment must be within 12 months of the first segment.

So May 2008 is the earliest you may book a segment for May 2009.

Thanks Serfty, I realise it would need to be an open dated segment but the routing I mentioned is not my preferred routing but I would happily route through SIN and to SYD if I had a chance of picking up an A380. The question was more relating to how quickly you think QF will put the A380 on the SYD-SIN-LHR route. Any ideas?

I will probably look in September/October about having some availability held for a July/Aug 08 departure as I will take 11 months over the DONE4 so I need to start working out a routing.
