Who are the HKG-xxx-OSL flights with? AY?
If on AY I think you will be able to check your luggage through. I have checked luggage SYD-HKG-HEL-LHR before (although the luggage didnt actually make it to LHR)

Hi,
Probably a stupid question, I've actually done this on a previous trip, but can't remember how it worked.
I'm flying to Europe, BNE->SYD on QF, departing from the Brisbane domestic terminal, and then transferring to a CX flight out of SYD Int terminal.
Will I be able to check my luggage all the way through (all four! segments to OSL are on the same e-ticket), or will I have to collect my luggage in SYD and re-checkin?
Cheers,
Andrew.

I have my iPad... it is ... precious to me...
I have checked bags through SYD-MEL-HKG-xxx

Since when does CX operate a flight from SYD to SIN (unless it is an obscure codeshare)?
In any case, your itinerary is completely oneworld, so you should be able to check your bags all the way to OSL if you wish to do so.
To be more direct, you should not need to recheck your bags in SYD. The rest should be similar, and I'm guessing that it may not be desirable to recheck at any of your intermediates because I'm assuming your connection times will be quite precarious.
As a data point, I have checked a bag on a routing BNE-SYD-BKK-LHR-FRA with no trouble (QF and BA).

They tend to ask if you want your bags tagged all the way through don't they?

The mention of "all four! segments" implies to me the routing is BNE-SYD-HKG-somewhere-in-Europe-OSL. The somewhere-in-Europe may be LHR or HEL, but LHR actually makes for better connections when originating in BNE/SYD.
Either way, bags should be tagged all the way to OSL when checking in at BNE domestic terminal. There is a dedicated line and check-in desk for international connections. Use that line and have your passport available. You will likely be given boarding passes for the SYD-HKG and onward HKG-somewhere-in-Europe sectors. However, you probably will need to collect the last boarding pass at the transit desk at the somewhere-in-Europe transit location. They will need to sight the baggage check receipt at that point, so keep it handy with your travel documents.
Yeah the somewhere else in Europe is HEL. Most boring airport in the world, but better than the hell hole that is LHR.
I know from experience that I'll definitely be able to check my baggage all the way through from Australia to Norway, the question was really just whether the checking in at domestic for an international flight would mean that the through-check would have to happen in Sydney at the international terminal. It appears that I should be ok. It doesn't really matter either way, I just like to be prepared. And I want as much time as possible in the SYD F Lounge![]()
