Maybe you could ask them at the interview?

If you need to ask to visit then they may give a specific validity on your specific visa.

Other than that I have no idea.

Australian citizens are usually issued with a multiple entry B1/B2 Business/Tourist visa valid for 12 months or 5 years.

Re: How long is a visa valid for (USA)

The US electronic visa for visitors from Australia took effect 2 years ago around Jan 2009. I applied and got my visa electronically (thru the internet). I was allowed to enter the US and to stay there for 3 months. The visa is valid for 2 years, meaning I can use the visa once anytime the time the visa was issued (Jan 2009) until Jan 2011. Having said that, I take it that one has to apply for a visa electronically for any single entry. I can't remember if I paid a fee for the 3 month visa. But if you require more than 3 months then you need to go to the local US Consulate Office personally to apply. I believe there is a fee here. Hope this helps.

    What type of visa?

A number of visa types require interviews.

If you have all the required information and paperwork at interview and your visa is approved at interview your visa is for 12 months or you can request a 5 year visa for $30
