There are a heap of catches including you must travel 30 flight segments or 25,000 miles in the first 90 days to keep the Platinum status. No thanks.

Title is somewhat misleading.
That Status Match* is open for all of 2012,
but as powervideo said lots of conditions, inc 25k for the top (well second top) tier.
Also, all the travel for the match has to be done on UA ; so useless unless you're going to be travelling on them to/within the US to achieve the match.

I have a one off, potentially *A trip, in planning for later this year. I guess I could do the match 1.5 months before that. (I haven't read the conditions so this is a wild guess)
Sent from my iPhone using Aust Freq Fly app so please excuse the lack of links.

I'm about to be doing regular Skyteam flights in J so have requested a Status Match with Delta Skymiles. There's no way I'll get even close to matching but sitting on Gold while I do my first few trips gives a handy extra bonus (as they give you the status, from the way I read it, while you're trying to match, then you drop if you don't hit it at which point I'll easily be silver and almost gold anyway!)![]()

This status match is valid for 90 days (without any flying), so it is useful if you're flying on a *A airline as a one-off.
Always thinking futaris.
Foreigner, I see you read Frequent Flier as well![]()
