We're having a long-weekend in the USA, and the latest news is that Mexicana is shutting-down operations until a restructuring is finalised, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Seems the new owners have discovered the financial position of the company is worse than they thought. So much for due diligence. Cue Jarabe Tapatio...

I'm REALY unhappy Jan. They have not sent any notification to me that my flight has been canceled.
Pathetic service![]()

Mexicana Airlines (Grupo Mexicana) suspends its operations indefinitely
The current administration received the company seven days
ago under Business Reorganization (Concurso Mercantil) and
technically bankrupt.
Financial deterioration and lack of agreements force Grupo Mexicana to stop flying.
Grupo Mexicana deeply regrets all inconveniences caused to
its passengers.

That sucks.
The original management decision to suspend ticket sales was pretty stupid. I wonder where they can go from here![]()

Hi all
Posted this FYI. Dont have enough posts to include the links for the articles. AA has at this stage stepped up flights from DFW.
Hope QF sorts this out, im travelling through Mexico in December and have one flight on Mexicana( with a QF flight number) from LAX to Mexico city.
Mike
There is a thread in "travel news" tracking the developments and it has the link from Grupo Mexicana you're probably referring to.

Thanks Notzac
I booked my flights through a QF agent. Already discussed the options when they first filed for bankruptcy and foloowed up today. No response yet. Assume QF will need sometime to get their head around the ops and logistics around it. Hopefully I'll get a direct LAX-Mexico city flight. Saves me a half day of extra travel.
I've flown almost weekly on QF for about 7 months now and besides a couple of delayed flights I'm pretty happy with the service. Here's hoping that continues![]()
Sorry to see this happening. Reminded me of demise of AN where I ended up scrambled to buy QF SYD-ADL return for $365 ......
Did you pay with a Credit Card? In most cases, if the product or service isn't delivered, then you can dispute the charge and get a refund. It won't cover alternative route costs (like travel insurance might), but you will at least get your money back.
Getting the money back is not dependent on the airline (which won't have any), but comes from their merchant acquirer bank.
