Sounds like you may have a good case for "Original routing credit" if the flights were cancelled by BA.

I know of quite a few cases of people getting "Original Routing Credit" when not flying QF, but instead being on eg AA/BA/CX etc and their route being stuffed around. It can go either way (and I think JohnK has some experience from his Finnair flying days of Finnair sorting it out), but I believe the easiest is to get Qantas to sort it out.
Now I don't know if the other airline has to approve the ORC, or Qantas just credits them and then charges the other airline, or the SC's/points come out of a mystery "customer care" pool etc. etc.
Going back to the original question - knowing more now about the cancellation and the new flight plans I would definitely follow it up with Qantas and provide the ticket information from the first ticket and the same from the second ticket.
Updating:
So far QF are refusing both ponts and SC's on the basis that I wasn't "offloaded" by BA. The argument will continue when I get back.
Interesting to see there are a few aggrieved passengers making their views known here via letters to editors. In most cases, seems BA were simply not interested if you didn't book directly with them. They seemed to think that you had to go back through the original booking point/agent - a bit tough to achieve in 3 days from the other side of the world.
Nevertheless, thanks to all for the useful comments and assistance.
I've commented more than once of the value of this forum. And not for the first time, it has benefited me directly.
As a result of comments and suggestions made in this thread, my initial fear that I would fail in my attempt to attain WP status have been overcome and my status now shows as WP.
Thanks again to all and I can now find out for myself if it is indeed the "Holy Grail"

Well done.A happy little Snoopy now!
I think we all have these types of experiences.
I am having issues with Delta Skymiles trying to get a KLM flight BKK-TPE to credit. I did not receive an e-ticket but I do have an e-ticket number, an itinerary with a booking code and both boarding passes BKK-TPE-BKK which have the e-ticket number on them. One flight has credited the other hasn't.
At least the people working for Qantas frequent flyer centre make sense most of the time. I am about to totally give up on Delta Skymiles.
