    Re: Tipping

They don't have the culture of tipping, so I'm not sure why they should.

We don't either, and the only people I tip are the taxi driver and pizza guy ("keep the change" style). Just because you do your job it doesn't mean you should be tipped in a non-tipping culture. IMO anyway

No, they don't. Despite what people claim, better service only leads to 1-2% extra then bad service. No matter the service, they are tipped essentially the same. http://scholarship.sha.cornell.edu/c...ntext=articles

Remember as well in the UK, the scurge of the 'mandatory' 'optional' service charge of 10-12.5% is applied to many restaurant bills. No chance of a tip when they pull that stunt (even though they still fish for a tip).

I've sent many a bill back when it has that sort of charge on it. Sadly tipping is pretty much mandatory in the USA, though the amount will vary dramatically depending upon the service. If it's ****ty enough, then I have no compunction with none. In the rest of the world it's largely a disease.

I very rarely even tip the taxi driver. Why should I
I've never met a credit limit that I can't exceed

    Re: Tipping

Was recently in Waikiki and had dinner at Top of Waikiki revolving restaurant, lovely meal but at the end when the bill arrived, the server advised that a gratuity had not been included so they suggested we tick either 18% 24% or 28 % !!! Bit blown away by that, think we went for 15%...another restaurant there actually included the 18% in the final bill and would have taken another tip if we had not realised....would not go back there again, not sure what the wage differences are these days but believe they have improved.
