Not Flown in 25 yrs......HELP!!

Hi

The only time I have ever flown was Syd to Procerpine in 1986.

I have the opportunity to go Syd to Hamilton at short notice. Unfortunately the prices are high. I have some questions:

1. Jetstar or Virgin ? Jetstar is direct, Virgin isnt. Any opinions on which is safer ?

2. Virgin is a 737 800. I like this but fear I could get an Embraer. Jetstar is an A320. Really worried about a change in plane and getting an Embraer.

3.. Virgin land in Bris then change planes. My wife tells me Bris have had security concerns of late. Should we be concerned ?

Welcome to AFF.

Interesting set of questions.

1. They are both safe and I would have no concerns with either.
2. All these a/c are fine. From the sound of it though you prefer the larger a/c.
3. What security concerns are you referring to

Reading between the lines of your post I get that you prefer the larger a/c and therefore would stick with JQ as they are direct and this sorts out all your other concerns. ie no need to transit in BNE and the possibility of an Embraer.

Yeah, these Embraer are to me an unknown quantity.

Re Brisbane, they locked it down a week or so ago after some security scare. Nothing serious just people getting through without being screened.

Yes, I would prefer a larger plane, less claustrophobic.

If you are worried about flying i would go with the larger plane it will feel safer not only because of the size but the noise levels, number of other people and other things

Personally i prefer jetstar but that is just my experience

I think you have argued the case for Jetstar!

I don't think you could differentiate them on safety, and given that Jetstar has a direct flight I would go with that, if the schedule suits you.

I am not sure how much equipment substitution happens on Virgin Blue, so I am not sure that it is a real concern.
