Pending trip to Florida -

We have a pending family holiday to Florida and for the sake of minds what would to the best route (direct) if possible and hte best way to entertain a first time flyer on such a looong trip (he is 3) god help us! .

Might depend on just where in Australia you are departing from and where in Florida you want to arrive.

If you want to stick with QF/OneWorld, probably direct to DFW and then to MIA. I haven't entered the US at DFW but anywhere else probably has to be better than LAX.

Can't offer any suggestions on how to handle the little tacka. Might be worth paying for exit row seats.

Your best flight is via Dallas direct then on to Miami? / Orlando? You are looking at some serious travel time. We have done this previously with young kids and recommend that you keep their sleep routine - don't let them board tired as the intial excitement kept them awake longer and made it more unbarable. The next gem is my wife came up with, she bought several new small toys that she produced at different intervals with kept them entertained. I also recommend not keeping them confined, but only walk then when you say not on their whim. So between the Kids & cartoons TV channels available - you should make it to Florida alive. Enjoy.

What airline would you fly this route, not fussed about flying QF just a great deal.

QF fly Brisbane - DFW. Otherwise you are stuck with LAX (QF, Virgin, United, Delta) or SFO (United)

With a young child you are not eligible for an exit row

If price is the main factor consider a holiday package (accommodation & flights [Disney?])

I think I'd probably try to avoid the domestic-to-international dance at SYD - as appealing as arriving in to DFW vs. LAX is, outbound immigration at SYD is moderately awful unless you're adept at it. If the dates work, you can get the following routing on VA: MEL-LAX-MCO.
