Have basic CC, upgrade to 'Gold' (or Gold to platinum) despite not earning the min $?

    Howdy,

Have an ANZ credit card. Rang up to arrange something on the phone... after doing so, the lass said:
    1. Want income protection? No.
    2. It takes at LEAST three days for Bpay payments to go through, do you want an ANZ bank account so it will go through instantly? No, I don't... and you are lying -< it doesn't take at LEAST three days.
    3. Okay, do you want a limit increase to $xxxx (where xxxx is > $5,000) (from my current $yyyy, where 1,500 < yyyy < 4,000)? No, not at the moment thank you.

    So, my musings are:
I wonder, what if I had asked to move to the Gold card, if she reduced the price of the gold card to the basic card (to $95, from $195).... and then taken her up on the credit limit...

I earn nowhere near the Gold minimum earn.... but the minimum credit limit is $5,000... and she offered me over $5,000....

Is upgrading to Gold, without giving income details, the type of thing that happens fairly regularly, or would I still have to go through a credit test, and let them know my income?
    Cheers

BPay is same business day (overnight), provided payment made prior to cut-off (usually 6 pm), as per the terms of the BPay agreement all members must adhere to. It really irks me the number of organisations that claim it takes several days!

ANZ no longer have Gold cards, only Platinum. Over the last couple of years they have offered card holders an upgrade at no extra cost several times, albeit on the same points earn as standard, rather than platinum.

Oh, I found it on their website, but I'm assuming you can't apply for it then.

Not sure how you found it on the ANZ website - I just checked and no gold cards exist. ANZ removed gold cards about a year ago.

ANZ - ANZ Frequent Flyer Gold - Apply Now For An ANZ Credit Card
It is in 'existing', but I just found it via a Google search, and wasn't aware that it was no longer offered when I made the OP. I mean, the link I just gave says:
    "New applicants

Interest rate on purchases 19.74% p.a.2
Interest rate on cash advances 20.99% p.a.2
Interest free days5 on purchases Up to 55 days
    Minimum credit limit $5,000
    Total annual fee3 $195
    "

Which is why I thought it was still open
