Jetstar - bad service or calculator fail?

Now I know I was foolish to purchase Jetstar - so I'll wear your jokes.


I purchased star class MEL- SIN for December one-way

I now need to change the date

The fare difference is calculated at a fare of $1299. A new business fare on the same day is only $699.

So in addition to any fare difference, am I penalised an additional $600 per person?


It is cheaper to let the original tickets go and repurchase - not that I will ever buy from Jetstar again...

The fare for $699 may be a sale fare in a different bucket to what you purchased, and therefore it only shows you fares in the same or higher bucket.

Did you purchase the Business Max option? If you did, you should be able to cancel then rebook. Otherwise maybe call them and see what they can do (no harm in trying).

JQ has two fare basis for their Starclass, D and J.. D is the cheaper option and J is the 'full rate'. If you have a J, you cannot downgrade to a D.

So because you want to change the date and there is a fee applicable, you wont travel JQ again??

That would have been my first JQ flight.

I have changed dates and paid fare differences on other airlines. But this is the first time I can see a price online for the same seat that is $600 less than I am being asked to pay.

I did not pay very much for the first fare, which is why the upgrade fare price of $1299 is so unrealistic. It appears the swap from StarClass to Business class has affected my ability to rebook and pay only the current fare difference price, as per the original terms and conditions.

Apparently every StarClass ticketholder who needs to change the date will be asked to pay more than the current online value of the seat.

The difference is that the current online cheap business fare most likely doesn't include points and status earning. Whereas a starclass fare did include that. The equivalent now is a business max fare. I guess it is trying to move you to business max - at the increased cost.

Previously though I thought all Starclass fares except Promo fares were fully refundable.

Was yours specifically labelled as a "promo" fare? If not, you should be able to get a full refund and then rebook separately.
