We are going in march, and paid $5360 each. Try booking it online thru EK website. In the end gave up after six attempts, and booked it thru TA. It does not include access to the business class lounge in Dubai. You can also have trouble with the baggage allowance at airports on the way back. Some of the desk staff are not aware of the 40kg allowed.

I thought it gives lounge access on the way back when departing in business class

There is a paid lounge available in DXB if wanted for the outbound Lounge Service

The baggage allowance should be clearly shown on the eticket in case there are any issues

Did you use the multi city search and use the appropriate cabin for each leg?
Just having a try on the website, using the multi city search I have managed to get the fares to price up ( SYD-LGW for $5730 including A380 to DXB - v nice J)

Also, from checking the online booking have seen that it counts as a busines saver fare for mileage accrual so AU-UK (for example) will earn 31,500 Tier Miles ( 25,000 required to attain silver status ) plus if you sign up for the mileage accelerators available on the route , as a base member can earn 52,100 Skywards spending miles if booked online or 39,500 if booked over the phone/with a TA etc

Changes permitted free of charge ( other than after no-showing for a flight)
    Change fee after no-show $300
    Cancellations before departure $300

As an aside... in relation to another thread about whether Australian fares are higher than those from Europe, a business class (all the way) r/t from Europe to Australia can be obtained for cheaper than the ex-AU special plus be eligable for full rather than saver miles/tier miles

I speak from experience, as to both the booking, and the desk staff at Glasgow (Superviser clarified it).As to the Lounge access, I was speaking about going, not on the return. It is not a problem as my wife has gold, and I have silver. Plus we have EK Citibank cards. Also have noticed that Air China, and JAL have deals going for the or around the same price for full business, but by a indirect route.
Still EK is direct and service is good, and we use them four or five times a year.

Ah well.. I had no probs with finding valid booking online tho and never flown from GLA

With another 31,000 TMs will it be 2 x gold members afterwards?

Ah. I assumed you meant that there was no lounge access on the inbound ( which would have lined up with the description of the deal on the website where it only advertises lounge access in Australia .

EK is definitely nicely direct and I do like their service; nice business class and a delightful 1st class

Although this airline doesn't help most of us addicted to Qantas or AA points and/or Status Credits.

Best QF comparison is a Premium Economy Ticket to London with a fingers crossed points upgrade into Business Class!

There is a lot to be said for taking jam today vs jam tomorrow. Guaranteed business class with a top product vs a lottery to spend 120,000 FF miles to upgrade from premium economy to business. Earn 60,000 points from the trip rather than spend 80,000 ( after earning 40,000 approx ), plus of course if not going to London or Frankfurt needing an extra connection

On the upgrading front, if there is availability in I class, can buy 2250 miles for USD56.25 to add to the 30,000 earned from AU-UK to upgrade to business class on the way back leaving the only leg in economy being the DXB-Europe

Not at all. QF premium economy to europe is one of the biggest airline ripoffs going around. $4.5K puh - you can get all the way in J on some airlines for not a lot more than that if you're not addicted to QFF points!

But sticking to QFF (or AA) It's not too hard to find similar arrangements to those that EK offer (but reversed in terms of the J sector, and alas not on a single ticket all the way through) - economy to Asia and business class from Asia on a oneworld airline for around $4.5K. Just have to be a little creative.

For approx $6500 a combined CX/AY fare is business all the way, with FLAT bed to HK, then QF style to Helsinki and Euro Bus to whereever in Europe you wish to go.

Lounges all the way there and back, J SC's, 100+120+40 x 2 = 520 for the trip. NOT far from Gold and saving the Qpub yearly cost.

That was from MEL, if from Sydney then thru BKK.

Must say that I couldn't contemplate spending $5-6,000 on a business class ticket to Europe.

But all my travel comes out of my own pocket and I do not run a small business or have an employer who picks up the tab.

However I still do fly an awful lot in international business class, but don't pay top dollar for it.
