If the regular television repeats of "The Vicar of Dibley" do not give you enough "Dawn French" in your life; you can now see her on your screens nightly, spruiking the new and improved Flybuys programs for Coles.
Our members, however, on a whole have been left a little underwhelmed by the "new and improved" program. For one, a rumoured partnering with Virgin's Velocity program does not look to be on the cards. Second, Flybuys pairing with Webjet means that any future partnerships with an airline loyalty program appear to be limited. Third, our members have reported that it has been extremely difficult to obtain any rewards from the program, and very few would shop exclusively at Coles to reap the benefits.
Our members do, however, acknowledge that there are some key advantages of the new scheme. The points no longer expire if unused for a three year period. The accumulation of points will undoubtedly allow many more customers to actually obtain a benefit (albeit small) from the program. Further, points have been revalued, in the past points have equated to around 0.8c and they are now changing to 0.5c. This, however, is coupled with an increase in the number of points required to actually receive a reward, A Sydney to Melbourne flight is rumoured to set you back around 16,000 points. Existing points will also be revalued in accordance with the new scheme guidelines.
Despite the pros and cons many of our members have decided to join or continue their existing membership under the scheme. As one member astutely points out the Flybuys scheme is not and therefore should not be compared to an airline loyalty scheme.
