If you have ever suffered from "status envy", our members are here to offer some tips and tricks on climbing the rungs of the status ladder quickly and cost-efficiently. One astute member has discovered Jetstar's "Friday Fare Frenzy", which often include fares for as low as nine dollars! Also by contributing an additional fifteen dollar optional extra, it allows members to claim both Qantas Frequent Flyer points and status credits.

Our members are suitably impressed with this status grabbing strategy but admit that the time and commitment involved could be rather draining.

Other issues to consider are that the fares may be limited to travelling certain days of the week, so to do such a status-run you would need a fairly flexible work schedule. In some circumstances these bargain basement fares are only cheap one-way and you would be required to pay full-fare for the return leg. Furthermore, our members warn of potential flight cancellations and reiterate that if you are time-poor it is not a good idea. Land costs should also be factored in when considering the value of these cheap fares. Costs for parking, airport transfers and meals etc can make for a more expensive trip.

However, our members praise this relative "newbie" members ingenuity and our avid Qantas frequent flyers are looking forward to exploring further what Jetstar can do for them!

Our member smit0847 discovers a great bargain! When booking a Virgin flight from Melbourne to Adelaide, our member decided to check-out the “points and pay” option, and managed to snag a Business Class flight for just 6,600 Velocity points + $37.
I know people value velocity points differently but I think that 6,600 + $37 for a $499 Business Fare is incredible value
As it turns out, this option was actually discussed in some detail back in June where the AFF view is that the Virgin “points and pay” option is fantastic value.

There's a reason that some things don't get discussed publicly
    smit0847 adds this additional insight
I think using the minimum number of points for domestic J fares with the maximum amount of 'pay' possible is currently the very best value for using Velocity points
