    3. Getting Upgraded

A member wonders how best to upgrade a company-funded Economy Class fare to a higher cabin class.
I have the misfortune to work for a company that won't pay for anything other than cheapest possible economy fares for anyone lower than a VP.

I'm likely to be increasing my rate of long haul travel soon, and have kind of had it with flights over 6 hours down the back of the bus! Happy to pay a bit of my own money to get into a better seat (premium econ is my goal), but the paperwork restrictions make it hard to book anything other than Y.
"Dual Payment" is one option put forward
If your company uses a TA to make the bookings then they can put in dual form of payment.
As anther member notes you might even be able to claim your contribution as a tax deduction!
that I always claimed and was always allowed the fare difference as a tax deduction.
Another suggestion is to use points for the upgrade
with some fare classes you can use points to upgrade with VA and QF.
Another more novel approach is use the "Health and Safety" card
tell them they are putting you at risk of DVT. That should get them thinking.

    2. Cheap Airfares

This week our members name (and shame!) the best (and worst!) economy service they have experienced.

Virgin Atlantic got a bad rap from one member who characterised the food as unappetising and the cabin crew as disinterested. Qantas on a Singapore to Melbourne leg for one member was disastrous with grumpy, fed-up and rude staff and a noisy, disruptive cabin. The power of good customer service was also highlighted with one member vowing never to fly British Airways again after experiencing rude and abrupt staff.

Thankfully all the poor service and bad food has been counteracted by some excellence that has topped our members 'best' list. Singapore Airlines were congratulated for their 'great food, calm atmosphere and caring crew'. One member recounts a near-empty Thai Airways flight into Sydney where the flight attendants left a couple of bottles of brandy to be shared amongst the half-dozen passengers. One member asks for little in life and feels that any flight where the call button is answered and there is a spare seat next to them is a winner. Another member claims to have never had a bad experience because they just love flying too much!

Tell us both your horror and happiness stories HERE!
