A member wonders how best to upgrade a company-funded Economy Class fare to a higher cabin class.
I have the misfortune to work for a company that won't pay for anything other than cheapest possible economy fares for anyone lower than a VP.

I'm likely to be increasing my rate of long haul travel soon, and have kind of had it with flights over 6 hours down the back of the bus! Happy to pay a bit of my own money to get into a better seat (premium econ is my goal), but the paperwork restrictions make it hard to book anything other than Y.
"Dual Payment" is one option put forward
If your company uses a TA to make the bookings then they can put in dual form of payment.
As anther member notes you might even be able to claim your contribution as a tax deduction!
that I always claimed and was always allowed the fare difference as a tax deduction.
Another suggestion is to use points for the upgrade
with some fare classes you can use points to upgrade with VA and QF.
Another more novel approach is use the "Health and Safety" card
tell them they are putting you at risk of DVT. That should get them thinking.

    2. Getting Upgraded

Some may consider it cheeky, whilst others admire the courage, but does asking for an upgrade actually work? This week our members address the urban flying myth that asking for an upgrade can actually work.

One member opines that the surest way to rule yourself out of obtaining that coveted upgrade is to ask for one at check-in. Many of our members can attest to this and have tried and failed miserably.

However, some members have struck it lucky and have been successful in securing an upgrade just by asking for one. Some attribute it to sheer luck, good timing and a little bit of charm. One member reports that in 150 flights, in thirty-five years of travel, they have only ever secured three free upgrades. Other members share stories of random pleasant surprises upon check in. Another memberís tactic is to merely enquire at check-in how much an upgrade is likely to cost in the hope of securing one at a reduced rate (if not free)!

Whilst some members maintain that status still plays some part in your ability to secure a free upgrade, others believe it is entirely at the whim of the airline and they are given out according to convenience.

Put this urban flying myth to the test and report back HERE!
