My 3GS is dying should I jump to Android with a Galaxy Nexus or 4S?

My 3 year old or so iPhone 3GS is dying. The screen is packing up with lots of dead pixels in the area of the swipe; the silence switch is now dodgy; it's crashing regularly despite reboots; it has overheated twice in the last month; the other day it wouldn't stop vibrating until I forced reboot it.
I haven't mistreated it having kept it in a case with a screen protector.

Anyway, I was looking at *gasp* crossing over to Android with a Galaxy Nexus. The other alternative is to tough it out until iPhone 5 turns up, but I don't think I'll last.

    Any thoughts?

How integrated into iOS are you? Do all your calendars and email sync from iCloud? Do you run a Mac or PC?
Are you happy with iOS? I was looking at moving from iOS to Android, and the Nexus is mighty tempting, however I use a Mac and all my work stuff is Mac, so an iPhone made sense. I'm sure however there are many who use Macs and Android. If you can hang out till Sept/Oct could very well be worth your while.

IMHO The Nexus is the better piece of hardware by far, it just depends what operating system you are comfortable with.

And I was thinking my 3G was bad, but nothing like what you've experienced.

Sounds a lot like my sisters old 3GS. She recently upgraded to an iPhone 4S and couldn’t be happier. She doesn’t use Siri.

I use a 4S too. I have found 1 legitimate use for Siri, when the phone is paired with my bluetooth car kit I can simply ask the phone to call who I like while I'm driving handsfree. Similarly I can also send text messages sometimes with mixed results.

Not to derail the thread, but that’s the one use I think I’d have for Siri… handsfree typing (or speaking) of text messages while my hands are busy. Certainly beats the incredibly risky practice of tapping a letter every 5 seconds. Not that I do that of course.

I switched from Andriod about 6 months ago and bought a 4S. My first Apple device ever and am 100% happy.
My old device was a HTC Desire and I had nothing but problems with it. The 4S just works.

One of the main drivers is that our work is all based on Google mail hosting and calendars as well, so my use of iCloud is quite limited. Google synchs well with iOS. So Android could possibly offer a better integration.
All people that I know with a 4S seem to use Siri for playing around, but I take the point about using it for bluetooth and driving.
The big driver too is cost, with the Nexus now around the $500 mark if I buy outright.

I went from 3GS to 4S and am very happy. I am however highly integrated with iOS/OSX given I have macs and iPads. My 3Gs just went to my mum for her to use - she was on Facebook on the phone all morning...
I have my iPad... it is ... precious to me...

So much concrete so little time...

Bit of a no brianer then, iOS does not provide presence indication for google, if you are using Gtalk as well as gmail you will have a much better experience on an android device, no doubt.
