You have until Dec 14 to grab those QF fares before an increase:

Can anyone recommend a respectable part time job in Brisbane?
So I am guessing SYD-BNE will increase to $105 from $101. Not so bad but wasn't there a domestic airfare increase recently?

I recall a 3% increase sometime in the last 6 months. ADL-SYD increased from $129 to $133 or something like that. So now up to $137?
at least they're no longer serving beetroot chips. Still I'm not sure a packet of almonds and a small coke is worth $18 over the cost on DJ. Or $15 if I get a big coke and cup of ice on DJ.

Sounds logical. We all have different needs and some benefits of status should not be underestimated such as priority check-in, increased luggage allowance (add $10 on DJ) and better earning/burning of frequent flyer points.
So let's forget about food and drink and even with sale airfares I come out in front on QF (most times and I must admit that during certain periods DJ does work out cheaper) as I refuse to spend the sort of money required to attain DJ Gold status.

My last few flights with DJ as a gold flyer have shown benefits of that status. It has made flying with DJ equal and possibly better than QF. I think the greatest benefits have been real expresso coffee and priority boarding that actually happens and is not just written on a website somewhere. Otherwise I don't check luggage so can't compare.
In terms of price I'm on record as saying that the average difference isn't that great, only about $7 for me. But that should change as I fly DJ more and with the trends in QF pricing where the base price of one of my main flights is usually $190-ish instead of $133.

I could rhave equested to be comped DJ Gold status but unless I made the commitment to change travel to DJ then Gold status would have been wasted and would almost exclude me from asking for Gold status in the future.
Put simply I do not want to/cannot commit to spend ~$7,143/year on domestic travel just to maintain DJ Gold status.
