The growth of Middle Eastern airlines in particular Qatar Airways, Emirates Airlines and Etihad Airways over the last five years puts them right on top in the new and young fleet stakes. Emirates expansion seems insatiable no region is free from their touch Africa, North & South America, almost every notable city in Asia sees the regular arrival of Emirates aircraft. Emirates have received 50 new long haul planes in the last 3 years, no less than 20 A380s in that number. The latest network addition for Emirates is Ho Chi Minh City. Qatar Airways continues to add long neglected eastern European cities to their network such as Sofia, Budapest, and Bucharest. Etihad are not far behind.
The only European airline with a notably young fleet is Turkish Airlines; a reflection of their recent raise to prominence in the long haul airline world. Singapore Airlines with their recent introduction of Airbus A330s, fleet of A380s and the slow withdrawal of Boeing 747s have kept them prominent in the young fleet stakes. Virgin Australia with their small fleet of new Boeing 777-300ERs is the only Australian guarantee of flying in relatively new plane.
