Priority Boarding on Qantas

Some of you may have noticed that I might have a slight, little thing going on about priority boarding on Qantas domestic flights. This is something that is supposed to be a benefit for Platinum Frequent flyers - albeit listed in the fine print. I noticed this little gem when investigating the latest round of enhancements and yet I can not ever recall a call for priority boarding. Until this week in Adelaide; Yes they called for people who require assistance, business, Oneworld emerald and Oneworld Sapphire ( ) to board early and at their leisure. Now I am happy to see that there is finally priority boarding for platinum (OWE) but what about this idea of including Gold members. That is like a red rag to a bull, as one of my main complaints is the enhancements mean that there is little difference between Gold and Platinum. While I'll be following developments with time, there could very well be one less difference in status benefits.

I'm only mentioning this because Qantas finally followed up on my feedback from December on this point. The CSA who called said that they had been discussing this point and that they hear priority boarding calls all the time. I guess I just catch the wrong flights. I tried to outline all my points about this; consistency in service, questioning the value of Platinum, etc. There wasn't much feedback from Qantas, besides we value your feedback and apologies. Sure I really appreciate those things but is it so hard to provide the published benefits. Maybe I'm ranting now. IT was good to get the phone call and I'll just see how things go tomorrow in SYD.

Boarding at convenience is a privilege for all OWE and OWS members, as per the OneWorld website. While this might not be on offer to Qantas Gold’s, they have to offer it to OneWorld Sapphires, and you say that’s how they announced it?

Similar in part to how Qantas Silvers will no longer get priority checkin, but a OneWorld Ruby member would be entitled to that service.

Yeah, I did note that benefit for OWS. But is there a difference between boarding at convenience and priority boarding? In some ways yes and in others no. I guess another problem is that Qantas does state that platinum gets priority boarding on domestic flights, unlike gold. No reason that Qantas has to match benefits for their own FFs, and interesting that the call was in terms of OW status and there was no mention of QF Platinum.

Anyway, I stuck in the lounge in SYD last night and didn't bother going to the gate early So I'm not sure what happened on this front. Will have to keep watching

I'm a QFF Gold life member having been either gold and platinum for years.
If you're like me, one day you might fly less and be "demoted" to gold.
I don't think that necessarily means we should be stripped of all privileges.
I dare say I have flown more first and business class flights with Qantas than you have over the years.
Not sure you're justified in sounding off about my right to board a little early, just because I'm "only" gold in recent years.

Well maybe, BUT thems the rules

However, I'm sounding off about qantas and the apparent value they place on my business as a platinum FF. I guess your relatively new new here and might have missed that. So I'm not sounding off about you as a gold (but I would still question you getting benefits greater than those published for the status that you're at); I'm more sounding off about the lack of apparent difference between Platinum and Gold, given the recent reduction in benefits by Qantas. It says that platinum's get priority boarding on domestic flights, So why doesn't that happen? Not a personal thing there, mate

So if you’ve flown F and J in the past it means you should be allowed to board early now when in Y? Cool, I’ve flown F once before too, I’ll expect to board first on other flights because of it

    Just thought I'd report in.

QF512 this morning, SYD-BNE. People with children, special needs, the elderly, Business, FF Platinum and FF Gold (no oneworld mentions) were all called for boarding first, followed by the back rows of the aircraft.

Seems to be different every time I board.

Yeah, this morning in Adelaide was a total mess. No call at all. But that was due to a right kerfuffle with a wheelchair passenger. Interesting that the other 5 people in row 4 all had their NG Bag tags on their carry on luggage.

excuse my ignorance but what is NG bag tag?

And yes the boarding has and all ways been inconsistent. but who cares, I just sit and wait there is more room in the lounge

NG would refer to Next Generation, and this is the bag tag that’s currently in the mail to status passengers of Qantas.

    Thanks

I generally don't bother with all that stuff.

All the emails, letters we get from airlines are not such a high priority.

What you see, and what you get with airlines, makes one wonder.

Must say priority boarding is not such an important thing but appreciate priority luggage.
